“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self” Bahgavad Gita
My path to yoga teacher training took a long time. I wish it had developed quicker, but I have to appreciate my path.
I have a past life in finance. 20 years of it. Commuting downtown, wearing suits, trying to find balance. To fight baby weight, like so many I found running and I also did weight training. I added marathons and triathlons and every workout video series imaginable. I also did some yoga. However, I had that common mentality that I had to be out training for my next endurance event, and that I couldn’t “afford” that much time on my mat.
About 10 years ago, I transitioned out of finance, obtained a personal training certification and after a while landed at a retirement community where I now manage the Wellness Center. Working in this environment was my window back to yoga. They needed a stretching class a few years back. I volunteered to teach it and it quickly became a class infused with yoga poses. After several years of teaching this class, it slowly evolved into more and more of a traditional yoga class.
Knowing that I needed more training to improve my methods, knowledge base and physical practice, I was blessed to take part in the Teacher Training program at Drishtiq. Little did I know how much I needed that training! It helped in all aspects of my life. With the support of my family, I was able to achieve that goal of being a registered yoga teacher and look forward to continuing my yogic journey and helping others with their own journey.
